Independence Day in Ojai

Posted by Lelah under: Activities; Events; Ojai .

The city of Ojai celebrates Independence Day every year with a spate of activities, including the highly attended parade down Ojai Avenue, a party in the park, and a concert and fireworks show at Nordhoff High School. This year, because the fourth of July falls on a Sunday, the parade will be on Saturday, July 3rd, at 10 am, and the fireworks show will be on Sunday, July 4th. You can read more about the controversial parade date at the Ojai Post.

If you decide to watch the parade on Saturday, here are some tips to make it a fun experience:

  • Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. There is some shade along the parade route, but it’s in high demand.
  • Walk if you can, otherwise plan to park your car as far away as Grand Avenue and walk the rest of the way.
  • Hydrate. Bring your own water and if it’s super hot, bring a spray bottle to cool yourself off.
  • Get in the spirit of the proceedings by wearing red, white and blue.
  • People will have set chairs up on the side of the parade route up to 24 hours in advance, so if you want both a good view and a seat, get there early and stake out a spot.
  • Avoid needing to be anywhere else in Ojai until the parade is over to avoid traffic and lots of pedestrians.

Happy Independence Day!
